German Costco in China, Thank Goodness!

Here's a short little blip out of the lives of the China travelers.
Now, Costco doesn't exist in China, which was devastating for us to learn but hope was not quite lost. Once we got to Nanjing we heard rumors that there was a 'Metro' store in Nanjing, which is basically the German version of Costco.

Nothing could stop us from going to this place that beckoned us with temptations of American and German goodies. On we went, taking bus 16 all the way to the end of the line. It felt like we were on a grand expedition, embarking on a tour to the outer frontier of our little Nanjing world. Our bus finally arrived and what did we see? Yes, the yellow and blue sign of 'Metro', a beacon for a better world. Inside we just walked in, past the cashier who looked like she wanted to check our member card. Luckily, we can play the "I don't know what's going on" - foreigner card in China.
Inside the store we did see the hoped for assortment of treasures, but we were sad to find out that they were not any less expensive than at other smaller stores. Nevertheless, we only left after buying some wonderful Kinder Schokolade and two Skippy peanut butter jars for just over two American dollars, a deal that we have not been able to repeat, even at Metro.
